The first thing I noticed that night was how quiet Leo had become in a room built to make noise.
Three hundred people filled Eleanor Pierce’s city ballroom with champagne, silk, diamonds, and the low confident murmur of people who were used to being obeyed.
I sat at the grand piano in the corner, wearing my best black suit and playing dinner music soft enough to be ignored.
