The paper did not look dangerous.

My mother made a small sound behind me.

When she pulled it out, a brass key lay in her palm, tied with a faded blue ribbon.
I recognized the ribbon.

“Rosa,” my father warned.
My mother flinched.

“I kept it,” she whispered. “I kept all of it.”
My father went still.
